What Happens When God Is Your Strong Foundation
When you make God your strong foundation, you discover stability the world can’t provide—no matter how much money, sex, or fame you get. Learn how to trust God with every step you take.
When Solomon became King over Israel, he asked God for wisdom—and God granted it to him. “God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.” That’s from 1 Kings chapter 4, verses 29 through 31.
And Solomon shared some of that wisdom with us—through the books he wrote: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. In one of his proverbs, Solomon encouraged us: “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” That’s Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5 and 6.
In the message we just heard, Holy Spirit said, “Stay steadfast. Be encouraged. Let Me be your strong foundation.”
A strong foundation enables us to stand—and to stay standing. It gives us something to build our lives upon. It gives us a place from which we can imagine and dream and create and grow. But when the foundations of our lives is not so strong, we can’t trust them. They can fail. They can fall. And they can bring our lives down with them. This happens when we put our trust created things—wealth, achievement, comfort, sex—rather than in our Creator God. It happens when we focus on God’s gifts, rather than on the Giver himself.
